Louisa Carmona is a Swiss designer and artist based in Belgium. Her work moves between material research, object design, and spatial practice. After completing a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design at ECAL in Lausanne and working as a furniture designer in Zurich, she turned her focus to textiles — learning traditional spinning and weaving techniques alongside artisans in Argentina, Benin, and China. These experiences, along with a Master's degree in Textile Design from ENSAV La Cambre in Brussels, continue to shape her interdisciplinary approach, blending craft with industry. Her projects vary in scale and context — from developing a materials library for health-supportive architecture with the Swiss Center for Design and Health, to creating site-specific textile installations for the Horta Museum. She currently manages the material library at Materiatek, where she curates, preserves, and expands a living collection of materials for architecture and design. Across her work, she explores how materials shape stories, environments, and the gestures that connect them.
